If music is for everyone, why aren’t concerts?

Join us at the Music Café in the Sydney Conservatorium of Music for a presentation and performance from PhD Candidate and Sensory Concerts director Grace Kim.

Her work re-imagines live classical concerts through sensory-friendly design, while maintaining artistic integrity. Developed through both artistic practice and lived experience, Sensory Concerts creates welcoming environments where neurodivergent audiences can engage with professional classical music in ways that feel comfortable and meaningful.

Grace will share the story behind the project’s development: from its initial concept to its growth as an established artistic practice and research initiative.

Commencing at 17:00, this evening will feature:

1. Presentation by Grace Kim (30 minutes)

2. Q&A with Grace and Jane Wearn - Principal psychologist, Sensory Concerts (20 minutes)

3. Musical Performance of “Sentio” by Cyrus Meurant (commissioned by Sensory Concerts) (8 minutes), performed by:

• Matthieu Arama (Concertmaster, Opera Australia Orchestra)

• Teije Hylkema (Principal cello, Opera Australia Orchestra)

• Grace Kim (piano)

Following the formal program, light refreshments will be served, from approximately 18:00-18:30

Please note this event will be photographed/filmed.

This event is delivered in association with the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Library Exhibitions for 2026. Grace Kim's Sensory Concerts exhibition can be viewed at the glass space in front of the Conservatorium Library throughout Semester 1, 2026.
