The Baur Gifts: A story of family philanthropy and rare books In-Person
The Friends of the Library warmly invite you to a special talk 'The Baur Gifts: A story of family philanthropy and rare books', celebrating 26 years of extraordinary generosity by the Baur Family to our Library.
Professor Louise Baur AM will share her family's remarkable philanthropic journey, exploring how their gifts to Rare Books and Special Collections have enriched scholarship and research across generations. The Baur gifts span centuries and countries, from the early works of Jane Austen and her family to Leo Tolstoy's letters on Christian life.
"The University is an incredible ecosystem... Supporting the library is one way graduates can give back to the University, which gave so much to us*," reflects Professor Baer, whose philosophy of giving has made a profound difference to our academic community.
The talk includes a display of books from the family, including items from the collection of Professor Judith Kinnear.
