Pride Culture Club In-Person
Pride Culture Club is a space for the University of Sydney's LGBTQIA+ community to share our passion for queer culture in all its forms, including history, art, music, film, and literature. This month’s event features an exciting line up of presentations highlighting the fluctuations of LGBTQIA+ identities, experiences, and culture across generations.
- Matt Devine is a registered architect who works as a strategic planner for City of Sydney and teaches in the heritage conservation program in the School of Architecture, Design and Planning. His presentation will focus on recognising LGBTQIA+ heritage through city planning.
- Kim Kemmis is a bisexual writer and historian, and an Education Support Officer in the School of Humanities. As an activist against conversion practices he has appeared on television, radio, podcast, and print, and he is writing a memoir of his time in conversion therapy and his recovery from evangelical Christianity.
- Aidan Pollock is an undergraduate studying psychology in the Faculty of Science. He will give a reading of an original short story exploring inter-generational trauma among gay men and the complexities of gay identity in the post-AIDS generation.
Content warning: bigotry, transphobia, homophobia, conversion therapy, police brutality, HIV/AIDS, mental illness, and death.
This event may be photographed. Light refreshments will be served.
A joint initiative of the Library and the Pride Network, Pride Culture Club is free to join, and participation is open to all staff and students of the University of Sydney.
