Friends of the Library | Behind the Scenes: Rare Books and Digitisation

Friends of the Library | Behind the Scenes: Rare Books and Digitisation In-Person

Come behind the scenes at the Library and see how we digitise our Rare Books and Special Collections.

In addition to our physical collections, the Library is home to an extensive online collection spanning thousands of objects – from early glass plate photographs to Ukiyo-e woodblock prints, Medieval manuscripts to intricate botanical illustrations. Digitising our collections makes them easily accessible for researchers and culturalists at the University and beyond.

At this session, you’ll have the opportunity to view highlights from our Rare Books and Special Collections (including a 2nd edition copy of Maria Sibylla Merian's groundbreaking natural history work, Metamorphosis insectorum Surinamensium, published in Amsterdam in 1719) and see how they are digitised at high resolution using our specialised equipment.
