Sky Country & Waters, Indigenous Cartography with Uncle Jimmy

Sky Country & Waters, Indigenous Cartography with Uncle Jimmy In-Person

We welcome all University of Sydney Students to come along to this exciting and engaging opportunity.

You are invited to attend this unique and important opportunity to learn about pre-European cartography and connection to Country with Uncle Jimmy. In this 3 hour session, you will learn about the deep knowledges of Indigenous peoples who were the first agriculturalists, aqua-culturalists and scientists of Australia. Uncle Jimmy will start with a walking tour around Victoria Park and teach us about tree and plant identification, bush foods and bush medicines . After the walking tour, we will come back to the Library and learn from Uncle Jimmy about Indigenous cartography in an interactive map making workshop, where you will understand Aboriginal Sydney, the harbour and rivers, marine life, waterbirds and Australian native animals.

There are limited spaces so please book your place!

When: Wednesday 25th September, 10:30am-1:30pm

Where: Fisher Library, Camperdown Campus. We will meet in Fisher Library, then walk first to Victoria Park and come back for the cartography workshop in the Fisher Library Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student Space, L3.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Note: Please ensure that you bring sun protection, comfortable walking shoes and water if needed as we will be walking around Victoria Park for some of the session. Please bring along a notebook to take notes.
