Exhibition Opening: Hardy Wilson’s Old Colonial Architecture... 1924-2024 In-Person
Join us for a drink and some canapes to celebrate the opening of :
Hardy Wilson’s Old Colonial Architecture... 1924-2024
2024 marks the 100th anniversary of the publication of Hardy Wilson’s Old Colonial Architecture in New South Wales and Tasmania. By many measures it is the foundation of historical scholarship on architecture in Australia and the first major publication dedicated to the documentation and conservation of Australian buildings. This exhibition draws attention to the book’s creation, examines its enduring presence and influence in Australian architecture, and contextualises the book in Wilson’s biography and wider body of published work. In doing so the exhibition highlights Wilson’s artistic ability and his catalytic role in architectural publishing in Australia, while raising important questions about his legacy and the status of his best known book. [Limited spaces available]
Curated by Cameron Logan in the School of Architecture, Design and Planning with Hector Abrahams and Olivia Salkeld of Hector Abrahams Architects, Sydney in collaboration with Rare Books and Special Collections.
